SLS was used in the making of headpiece, corset, and wings

Victoria’s Secret fashion show 2013 was, as ever, a hit: women loved the pieces the lingerie giant proposed for the new season, while men loved watching the gorgeous models strutting down the catwalk in super elaborate and yet very revealing little numbers.

However, I bet you didn’t know that, if you’re a 3D printing aficionado, there was something in it for you as well, namely a 3D printed outfit.

Lindsay Ellingson was the lucky girl who got to wear it, and it consisted of a snowflake corset, a snowflake headpiece, and wings / sleeves. The video above explains how they all came to be.

The outfit was made through a process called selective laser sintering or SLS. The challenge wasn’t in making the snowflakes but in making them stick together in one piece. The material used was nylon and was “dusted” with Swarovski crystals.

After all, what’s a VS show without these precious gems?

“Shapeways, the 3-D printing service provider hired by Victoria's Secret, used an SLS 3-D printer made by EOS, a privately held German-based company that's well regarded in the industry,” Fool.com reports.

And it looks absolutely breathtaking!
