When thinking about a NAS device, the first thing that comes into one's mind is an angular, plain looking box that doesn't have any chance to arouse your interest, but things don't have to necessarily follow the same pattern each and every time.

With that thought in mind, a computer modder started to construct its own version of a NAS computer and the first thing that he selected for the build was a wine barrel.

Yes, you read that right, a 110L wine barrel, of all things. Its other options? Lian Li's PC-P60 or P80 aluminum chassis.

Believe it or not, the wine barrel won in front of Lian Li's elegant creations and the decision was motivated by the ease of maintenance and upgrade as well as by the better cooling options provided by the barrel. Pricing also made the barrel a better choice.

Outside of the unusual case, the computer that resulted from this project is actually a standard NAS with 12 2TB hard drives, a couple of SATA PCIe cards and a Core i5 CPU. Still not convinced? Check out the galley bellow, maybe that will change your mind.
