The developers working on the upcoming ModNation Racers: Road Trip at the SCE San Diego Studio have confirmed that the game will lack any sort of competitive online multiplayer mode.

Vernon Mollete II, the producer working on the racing game, stated that players would be able to join in ad-hoc multiplayer matches over Wi-Fi, as long as all interested players own and run a copy of the game.

But when logging into the PlayStation Network service players will lack a competitive multiplayer mode and will have to settle for an asynchronous mode.

This means that each player will run through the tracks alone and will see a ghost image of other racers who try to get the best time on the same level, similar to how TrackMania handles multiplayer.

The developer also confirmed that the Trophies for ModNation Racers: Road Trip required an Internet connection to be obtained and stated that the game would have a lot of options for course creators wishing to share their content with the community.
