Modbook Inc. will begin taking orders for the highly portable 13.3-inch Mac-based pen tablet computer, the Modbook Pro, starting this Wednesday. The solution is now equipped with a solid-state drive (SSD).

The company has announced that its latest ModBook Pro foregoes the traditional (platter-based) internal storage using hard disk drives (HDDs) in favor solid-state drives (SSDs), which provide faster read-write speeds, less heft, and overall better performance.

The standard option will be a 64GB Nishara-class SATA 3 SSD, with upgrade options going as far as 480GB.

The company said that “SSDs allow users to get their Modbook Pro up and running fast and handle files of almost any size effortlessly. This speed of access and performance is perfect for the demands of creative users who often work with multiple large files at the same time.”

Customers in the United States ordering their ModBook Pro this week will only see their device shipped in November.
