Infinity Ward, however, makes a pass at dedicated servers

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 proved that video games were becoming the new, popular thing, as the game turned out to be the best sold entertainment product of all times. But to do so, its developers had to cut a few corners to make it as accessible as possible for everyone. And, since the consoles are far more popular media, Infinity Ward decided that the PC platform should get the shorter end of the stick. The game was designed from the bottom up as a console title and, when it had to be brought to the PC, the changes that needed to be made in order to reflect the platform change were lost in transition.

The title lost dedicated servers, editor tools and had its multiplayer servers limited to 9 vs. 9. As such, there was no surprise when the PC community decided to boycott the game and, in the end, only three percent of the people that bought it did so for the PC. But now, it seems that, with the rush of the sales out of the way, and developers and publishers no longer focusing on profits, the PC is going to start receiving some extra attention.

While there are little chances that, no matter how much time will pass, MW2 will be brought to what PC games should be, and that it will receive all the extras that the consoles can't support, it seems like IW is finally taking a few steps in the right direction. While still busy with the multiplayer glitches that the game continues to generate, it seems like developers have found enough time to start working on customization tools.

According to Robert Bowling, the title will receive its sought-after mission editor in the future. He posted on Tweeter that, "Nothing on dedicated servers, but there may be some mod tools news coming in the future, I'll pass it along once I have it." Also, on the Infinity Ward forums, a brand-new section has been opened, entitled "MW2 Status Updates," which is, at least for now, void of information.
