Canadian carrier Mobilicity officially announced that is launching its mobile network in Calgary, along with a number of unlimited talk, text and data plans that target local consumers.

One of the reasons Mobilicity decided to deploy its 3.5 network in Calgary is the fact that Calgarians are paying among the most expensive wireless rates in Canada.

We challenge Calgarians to try our state-of-the-art 3.5G network and seriously think about what they get from their current wireless carriers,” said President and CEO Dave Dobbin.

There’s a reason a growing number of Canadians in other cities have been switching to our flat-rated, unlimited plans. Mobilicity customers don’t give up anything except contracts that handcuff them to expensive extra charges and surprises on their bills.”

In addition, the carrier launched the ‘Mobilicity Network Challenge’ that gives competitors the opportunity to win various Blackberry devices.

The carrier's interactive digital touch-screen and handset kiosk will be visiting different locations in the city asking Calgarians if they can tell a difference between the carrier's new network and competitor networks.

Unlike other major Canadian carriers, Mobilicity does not require its customers to sign long-term contracts and does not ask for early contract termination fees.

To celebrate the event, Mobilicity is offering Grand Opening Specials such as cheaper plans and handsets available for affordable prices.

For example, its $60/month plan is available in Calgary for only $45 for a limited time. The plan includes unlimited local talk, unlimited text and picture messaging, unlimited North American long distance, unlimited global texting, call features including Caller ID, voice mail and call waiting PLUS unlimited data and BlackBerry Internet Service.

The carrier is opening 70 points of distribution in Calgary and will offer its entire handsets lineup, including the Samsung Nexus S, Samsung G-Touch and Nokia E73.
