As expected Mobilicity has just announced the release of the Samsung Galaxy mini budget-friendly Android smartphone.

Although the carrier priced the phone at $169.99, it appears that the Galaxy mini is already out of stock.

Customers who want to purchase the smartphone as cheap as possible must wait until Mobilicity replenishes its Galaxy mini stock, as the carrier's deal is much better than Videotron's, which priced the handset at $ 229.95.

Samsung Galaxy mini was unveiled at this year's CES trade show, back in January and hit shelves one month later.

Even though it's far from any of today's modern smartphones, its low price and decent performance recommend it as a good alternative as a budget-friendly Android phone.

In this regard, the Galaxy mini runs Google's Android 2.2 Froyo platform, but a Gingerbread upgrade has already been confirmed and is expected to be released by the end of the year.

However, there's no telling when Mobilicity will make the Gingerbread upgrade available to its customers.

Galaxy mini stands at 110.4 x 60.8 x 12.1 mm and weighs just 105g (battery included). It comes with a small 3.14-inch capacitive touchscreen with 262k colors support and 240 x 320 pixel resolution.

In addition to Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Galaxy mini offers users Wi-Fi hotspot capability, which allows up to 5 Wi-Fi-enabled devices to connect to the Internet.

The smartphone is equipped with a 600 MHz MSM7227 processors manufactured by Qualcomm, and an Adreno 200 graphics processing unit.

The 3-megapixel camera included on the back of the phone lacks autofocus or LED flash, but features video recording capabilities.

Galaxy mini is also known for its high autonomy, as the phone's 1200 mAh Li-Ion battery is able to provide up to 570 hours of standby time or up to 9 hours and 30 minutes of talk time.
