Although Nokia has just introduced its first Windows Phone devices, North American carriers continue to launch some of the Finnish company's older Symbian-based smartphones.

Unfortunately, Nokia's CEO, Stephen Elop already confirmed that the first Windows Phone devices, namely Lumia 800 and 710, will reach North American shore in early 2012.

Until then, Canadian carrier Mobilicity is offering Espoo fans the Symbian-powered Nokia 500 smartphone for only $169.99 (120 EUR). The phone is now available for purchase at all Mobilicity stores across the country.

Dubbed as a mid-range smartphone, customers can pair the Nokia 500 with Mobilicity’s $10 unlimited data add-on.

It's hard to say if anyone would want to spend $170 for a Symbian device, instead of waiting for two more months and get the Lumia 710 for double the amount.

All in all, the Nokia 500 is here to grab for all Canadians who live in Mobilicity's areas with network coverage.

The phone is equipped with a single core 1GHz processor and runs the Symbian Anna operating system.

In addition, it comes with a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display with 16 million colors support and 360 x 640 pixel resolution.

Social media users will enjoy the phone’s intuitive nature. Its integrated Social App widget enables users to view social networking status updates, tweets, personal messages and events on the home screen, while its 5.0 megapixel camera makes it quick and easy to share photos and videos with family and friends,” Mobilicity claims.

The 5-megapixel camera on tha back lacks both autofocus and LED flash, but offers video recording capabilities.

It also packs 2GB of internal storage, 256 MB of RAM, 512 MB of ROM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Connectivity options are covered as well, including HSDPA and Wi-Fi support, Bluetooth, and GPS with A-GPS support.
