Designed for live screencasting of Symbian 60-based phones

In case you were ever curious to see how those apps you wanted to install on your Symbian 60-based phone would work, now you have the chance to actually do so. The guys from mobileways.de have thought about this, and came up with a service named demoFONE.

demoFONE is a technology preview that allows Symbian smartphones (Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung) users to view and present demo applications, while the end-result can be seen via online real-time broadcast on the website. Basically, with demoFONE, users can “beam” the screen of any S60 3rd Edition based mobile phone to the web.

The service was launched yesterday, and is currently at its beta version. However, if all goes according to the initial plans, users should get a full pro version of demoFONE by the end of this year. This means that we won't have to wait too long for it.

As said in the official press release accompanying the launch, the service still has some glitches and doesn't seem to run that smoothly. A fast Internet connection is, however, required, either through WLAN/WiFi or a 3G/GPRS subscription, considering the fact that streaming can take up to 50kb/s, which is only understandable at this point in time.

Browsing the website, users can see both the phones that are currently online and those that are offline. Another detail that the site provides is the last time a phone connected to it and the firmware it used. Unfortunately, at the moment, no information about the application or applications that are presented or tested is not available. This glitch will be solved, hopefully, once the pro version is released.
