Eagle-eyed folks have already noticed that some of the requirements needed for Apple's new MobileMe service, as well as the requirements for syncing an iPhone 3G to a Mac call for iTunes 7.7. Mac OS X 10.5.4 will pack the latest version of Apple's digital media player application, according to the same listings.

"Some of Apple's new products which are due in early July suggest we'll see two updates by then, one for Mac OS X and another for iTunes," MacRumors is reporting. According to MobileMe's terms of service, users will need to have the latest version of Apple's media player application, iTunes (7.7). The same system requirements are called by Apple's newly unveiled device, the 3G iPhone, along with Mac OS X 10.5.4.

Apple's Technical Specifactions page for the 3G iPhone reveals:

Mac system requirements - Mac computer with USB 2.0 port - Mac OS X v10.4.10 or later - iTunes 7.7 or later

Windows system requirements - PC with USB 2.0 port - Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later - iTunes 7.7 or later

MobileMe, Apple's new Internet service that automatically pushes new email, contacts, and calendar events to your Mac, PC, iPhone and iPod touch, lists the following requirements (Apple device highlights):

- Mac OS X v10.4.11, the latest version of Mac OS X Leopard; Safari 3, Firefox 2, or later - software version 2.0 for iPhone and iPod touch - the latest version of iTunes

Apple claims its MobileMe service is a simple and efficient way to keep everything up to date. Aside push email, push calendar and push contacts, MobileMe also offers web applications at me.com, a MobileMe Gallery for photo sharing, MobileMe iDisk for online document access and a generous 20GB of online storage.

A special offer is already on, saying that if you buy a new Mac you get $30 off your first year of MobileMe subscription. You may also pre-order MobileMe today, for delivery in July.

Mac OS X is currently at 10.5.3 (launched only two weeks ago), while iTunes is currently at version 7.6. Mac OS X 10.5.4, the latest maintenance update for Leopard, should drop by July 11, the day iPhone 3G launches worldwide.
