Apple has announced that the MobileMe service has recently been updated with a few improvements. Besides posting the announcement on the MobileMe News page, Apple also updated a support document detailing the changes that have occurred with the cloud-based service.

Talking about the Recent MobileMe Service Improvements, Apple said, “We've recently made improvements to the MobileMe web applications, including performance enhancements for MobileMe Calendar. In addition the MobileMe login page now also includes news information.” The company then links to a support article for additional details.

“A reminder,” the company says, “For the best MobileMe experience, you should be using Mac OS X 10.5.6 Leopard (on a Mac), MobileMe Control Panel 1.3 (on a PC), and iPhone 2.2 Software or later (on iPhone or iPod touch).” Good reminder! - Keeps the Discussions forum from filling up with complaints from those who don't have all their updates installed.

So, these are the areas Apple says have been improved:

Mail

- Compose window address selector shows all email addresses for contacts, not just home and work addresses. - Newly added email addresses to Contacts appear in the compose window selector without having to logout and login. - Improved printing of HTML formatted messages.

Contacts

- vCard export supports all text fields. - Improved results when searching with both first and last names. - Improved Japanese name ordering.

Calendar

- Faster start time when accessing Calendar for the first time. - Faster performance when switching between day/week/month views. - Calendar now retains your last view settings, such as day, week, or month view, as well as showing or hiding the To Do panel.

Gallery

- Faster loading of Gallery home page for visitors.

- MobileMe login has new design featuring news updates.

According to the folks at Cult of Mac, the most obvious “cosmetic” change is a redesigned login page. However, the UI also seems faster, while integration among calendar/mail/contacts appears to be what Apple initially promised it to be when MobileMe was released last summer.
