Apple’s MobileMe customers are warned that a malicious phishing scam that’s targeting their accounts is seen landing in inboxes, reports The Mac Observer.

The phony email claims a virus has been detected in the recipient’s MobileMe folder and the account has to be upgraded with a new security feature. Unlike other similar schemes, the phishing attempt is very low tech since there isn’t a malicious link or an attachment in the email.

Instead, the recipient is advised to reply to the email and provide information such as email address, username and the password that protects his MobileMe account.

“A DGTFX Virus has been detected in your MobileMe folders. Your email account has to be upgraded to our new Secured DGTFX anti-virus 2011 version to prevent damages to our web mail log and to your important files,” reads the email users should delete as soon as they see it.

Even though these notifications threaten that the account will be deactivated, you should never provide sensitive information required in such emails.
