Last chance to save your photos and other files, says Apple

MobileMe is officially shut down as of the first day of this month, and for a limited time, users can still salvage their precious files and move them over to the new iCloud.

iCloud is Apple’s web-based suite of services that keeps your mail, calendars, contacts, documents, notes, notifications, reminders etc. up to date on every device you use.

MobileMe customers who are ignoring the countless warnings issued by Apple are soon to be left with an empty account - Gallery photos, gone; iDisk content, gone.

That is, if they don’t visit iCloud.com right now, sign in, and download all their stuff: “If you’re a MobileMe member, sign in to download your photos and files,” Apple says.

Moreover, if you are a beta user of iWork.com, you should also consider saving your documents by the end of this month:

“As of July 31st, 2012, you will no longer be able to access your documents on the iWork.com site or view them on the web,” Apple states in an email sent out to iWork.com beta users.

“We recommend that you sign in to iWork.com before July 31, 2012, and download all your documents to your computer.”

Apple offers a support article on its web site for detailed instructions on how to save a copy of your documents on your computer.

“Moving forward, you can use iCloud to store your documents and make them available across your computer and your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch,” Apple adds.

iCloud adepts can now get a sneak peek at new features coming in iOS 6 and OS X Mountain Lion, including Shared Photo Streams, iCloud Tabs in Safari, and more.

“With the launch of Mountain Lion this July and iOS 6 in the fall, iCloud gets brand-new features for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, and PC,” says Apple on the marketing pages of iCloud.
