Mobile accessories is a phrase that may cause a great deal of confusion since, technically, smartphones are mobile accessories, as are cameras, etc.

Juniper Research used the term to define wearable gadgets though, and other, small items that don't do much on their own.

That means video eyewear, baby monitoring, home security/monitoring, TV transmission equipment, fitness trackers, etc.

According to Juniper Research, app-enabled smart wireless accessories will exceed 18 million shipments this year (2013).

Moreover, by the end of 2018, the number will skyrocket to 170 million.

In fact, by 2018, the smart wireless sector will supposedly be dominated by fitness accessories and small consumer electronics. The longer run healthcare smart wireless accessories will progress the fastest and farthest.

"The multiplicity of potential use cases means that the consumer electronics category represents one of the most important areas in which smart wireless accessories will develop," stated Nitin Bhas, Juniper Research senior analyst.
