Following last year's Indian Ocean terrible tsunami that attacked Southeast Asia and Hurricane Katrina that ravaged New Orleans, USA, software developer Tea Vui Huang has released Mobile Tsunami Detector 1.0 for cellphone use, which can be downloaded for free at his site.

Mobile Tsunami Detector 1.0 was developed, relaying real-time information from the United States Geological Surveys (USGS) Earthquake reading. This prediction program analyzes incoming live information and provides probability and estimated impact times for all countries bordering the Indian Ocean. The program provides users with up-to-the-minute information that could prove invaluable in times when access to other means of communication, like radio and television may already be severely limited.

The software does require Internet access, however, to obtain USGS information. The program was developed using the Python programming language, and thus it is compatible for all Nokias utilizing Series 60. The handsets listed on the source site are the N-Gage, 3650, 6600, 6620, 6630, 6680, 7610, 7650, N70 and N90.
