Now that the Sandy Bridge platform (including here its notebook-bound representatives) has been officially unveiled at CES 2011, we're seeing plenty of new products employing it being rolled out, including here the particular notebook we'll talk about as follows, namely the Acer Aspire AS8950G-9839.

Touted as being Acer's “ highest performing model in its flagship notebook line,” the new 18.4-inch Acer Aspire AS8950G-9839 combines the new Intel i7-2630QM processor with the latest ATI Mobility Radeon 6850 graphics processor with 2GB of dedicated video memory and 8GB of DDR3 dual-channel memory (upgradeable to 16GB).

Sticking to the hardware configuration, we'll also have to point out that this thing comes equipped with a 750GB HDD, despite supporting two different storage units, for even more space.

Additionally, the notebook features a CineCrystal LED back-lit display with full high-definition (1080p), Acer CineSurround sound system with five built-in speakers and a dedicated subwoofer, dual-mode touchpad, as well as a 1.3 megapixel HD webcam and digital microphone.

Plus, the most notable connectivity options include firewire and eSATA ports, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet networking, while the notebook also includes a bio-protection fingerprint reader, preventing unauthorized use of the PC, and a scrolling volume wheel placed directly under the touchpad.

"The new Acer Aspire AS8950G is the ultimate portable entertainment center," said Preeta Anil, Acer product marketing.

"The new 2nd generation Intel Core i7 Processor delivers approximately a 20 percent overall performance gain, while its graphics subsystem delivers performance comparable to an entry level discrete graphics card. This allows the Acer Aspire 8950 to process video and play Blu-ray better than ever," concluded Acer's rep.

And it really seems that Acer's quite keen on putting this model quite rapidly on the market, since it will apparently hit the shelves as soon as a next week, with an MSRP starting at $1,599.99.
