Approximately three million people in the UK suffer with diabetes and need to maintain healthy blood glucose levels. t+ medical has come up with a pretty good way to help those people take control of long term conditions.

While most people own a mobile phone and many services are being adapted for mobile phones lately, the company has thought of turning a mobile phone into a personal healthcare management system.

"Essentially it?s a self-management tool, but because we can see patient readings on a secure website, we can advise on changes in insulin dosage without having to ask patients to come into the surgery," explains Dr Jeremy Wheeler, GP.

"Especially when you?re newly diagnosed with diabetes, it?s very reassuring to know that your GP or practice nurse is monitoring your progress. Being able to check patients? readings remotely and give them a call with advice is a big plus."

The t+ diabetes system gives people instant personal feedback and helps them spot day-to-day fluctuations that can be extremely bad for their health and have a devastating long term impact.

Aside from providing valuable information for the user, the mobile phone based tool also transmits the data to a website for a more detailed analysis and remote monitoring by a nominated healthcare professional.

The t+ diabetes system is customizable to collect only the information the user wants to monitor including blood glucose, meal time, exercise, weight or blood pressure. It is available for purchase on the t+ diabetes website for a one off connection fee of ?10 and a ?10 monthly fee.
