Mobile operator 3 managed to snag the title of best Digital Music Service at last week's Music Week Awards for the second year in a row. The 3G operator has continued its commitment to provide the highest quality and best value content and as a result, it managed to take the top spot, ahead of serious competition like AOL Music and Napster.

"The Music Week awards are some of the most credible in the Industry and for 3's music service to be recognised was a real validation of our position in the market place. 3 now represent 10.5% of the total UK singles market and stand second only to iTunes in UK digital music sales - The Music Week award showed how the market is changing and really highlighted the potential of music on your mobile", said Mark Joseph, Director of Television and Music, 3 UK.

In the past year, 3's music service has expanded to conquer 75 percent of the mobile music download market and has around 500,000 customers regularly downloading music. The mobile operator is providing around 1 million downloads a month and has even reached 1.5 million in December last year.

Aside from providing the same quality services, 3 has also introduced many new services throughout the past year. The highlights of last year included the launch of 3's Music Store, 3 FirstCut Awards, 3FrontRoom as well as its release of exclusive content such as Chamillionaire's 'Riding' video or Planet Funk's 'Stop Me' single.

John Penberthy-Smith, Marketing Director at 3, commented "We love music, whether it's launching new music or new talent. Clearly our customers love it too, and this music award gives us encouragement to continue to lead this growing category."
