The GSM Association, representing the interests of the worldwide mobile communication industry, has announced the Mobile Innovation Grand Prix – Americas Tournament winners for the ongoing year. The Americas part of the competition has been organized in collaboration with Rutberg & Company, and it has been showcased at the Future Mobile 2009 event, hosted by Rutberg & Company in San Francisco.

More than 200 senior executives responsible for strategic partnerships, investments and innovation assessment within their companies have been invited at this year's Future Mobile event, GSMA announces. The Mobile Innovation Grand Prix – Americas Tournament saw two winners in 2009, which were Ubidyne from Germany and WellDoc from the U.S.A.

The GSMA Mobile Innovation Grand Prix has brought together a number of innovative, small and medium-sized companies to present new applications, products and services to the international markets. This year, ten nominees were selected and reviewed by a judging panel that included senior executives from multiple mobile operators and venture capital companies around the world. In the end, two of the ten finalists have been designated winners and selected to compete for the Mobile Innovation Grand Prix title at the Mobile World Congress, held in Barcelona next year.

"This year's Mobile Innovation Grand Prix - Americas Tournament provided the judges with an extremely difficult task in choosing two overall winners from a superb crop of finalists," one of the members of the judging panel says. "Ubidyne's solution is the next generation technology for network infrastructure, while WellDoc's solution is the next generation in self health monitoring, and both will add tremendous value to the mobile industry. Our congratulations to the winners and we wish them every success for the future."

According to GSMA, the Mobile Innovation Grand Prix competition has had as its main sponsor the Generalitat de Catalunya. The Association, which is present in a number of 219 countries around the world, is focused on growing the mobile communication industry by broadening the opportunities for its membership, supporting new and innovative ideas and products.
