Years ago, we wouldn't have expected to see supermarket giants or film studios take up the production of tablets, but things have evolved in such a way that almost every major company is interested in branding its own slate product.

It’s the case of car-maker Audi that recently announced its very own 10.2-inch Mobile Audi Smart Display tablet.

The tablet is powered by a Tegra 4 processor and runs a very basic version of Android, which has been customized to be used within the car.

Audi has bundled the slate with a rotary dial UI and touchpad MMI interface, to fit the needs of drivers. The display is said to be a full HD one, which hopefully translates into 1920 x 1080.

Car owners can verbalize commands to control the tablet (like playing back audio from the tablet to the car’s speaker system), which comes with a nifty aluminum case.

The tablet will take advantage of in-car Wi-Fi provided by Audi partnership with AT&T (LTE is provided too). Thus, users will have the opportunity to download apps from the Google Play Store.

At the moment, Audi hasn't said anything about how much the system will end up costing and when we’re going to see it in the wild.
