Mobiado announced on Monday the launch of a new luxury mobile phone, the Grand 350 Pioneer, which will come to the market in only 37 units, and which is said to be the first handset in the world that utilizes “the compelling beauty of meteorite.” The new QWERTY-equipped device, the second from the company, is also said to pay homage to NASA. Each of the units is said to come with its limited edition number displayed on the right side.

To be more specific, the handset has been designed especially for the Pioneer 10 spacecraft that NASA launched back in 1972, which passed through the Solar System’s asteroid belt and is now on its way to Aldebaran (or Alpha Tauri) in the Taurus constellation. The most interesting part of the new mobile phone is its unique Gibeon meteorite battery cover. The material used for the cover comes from cosmos, and has been taken from a four billion-year-old meteorite that was discovered in Namibia back in 1836.

Here's how the company describes the exterior of the new device: "The 350 Pioneer body is CNC machined from spacecraft aluminum, and clear anodized to produce an elegant hard surface for demanding everyday use. The frame is then inlayed with sapphire crystal and the infrared window is made from a solid piece of ruby crystal. The screws are gold plated stainless steel. The buttons of the 350 Pioneer are a dramatic combination of sapphire crystal and stainless steel."

When it comes to the specification list of the device, we can count quad-band GSM/EGSM, HSPDA, 3.5G and Wi-Fi connectivity options, as well as a 2.36-inch display that boasts support for 16 million colors, a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper with video recording capabilities, built-in GPS receiver, Bluetooth connectivity, micro-USB port, and media player. The handset can operate on GSM/EGSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks, making it fit for use in North America, Europe, Africa, Asia- Pacific, and South America.
