MobiTV announced the opening of a Research and Development center in Stockholm, Sweden, as well as a new engineering facility in Sunnyvale, California.
The R&D center in Stockholm will focus on next generation wireless networks, such as
WiMAX and advanced multimedia technology. The establishment of the new center follows MobiTV's demonstration of the first unified multicast and unicast television solution for Mobile
WiMAX, performed at the International CES tradeshow in January this year. MobiTV hopes to attract some of the best industry experts in Sweden, to contribute to the advancement of mobile
television services.
"We take our role as market leaders very seriously and consider it our responsibility to continue to drive multi-media technology through innovation and development," said Kay Johansson, chief technology officer for MobiTV. "Sweden is the wireless epicenter of the world. By opening an office in Stockholm we will be able to tap into the local expertise, making the location an obvious choice for MobiTV’s R&D center."
The new Silicon Valley facility, located in downtown Sunnyvale, is the second center established by MobiTV in the San Francisco Bay Area. "We understand where MobiTV needs to expand in order to attract the best employees and continue moving on the path of success," said Paul Scanlan, president of MobiTV. "We’ve spent the past eight years delivering the world’s leading mobile television service with the guiding principle that we will always do what we can to support our U.S. and international partners. The opening of our new locations reflects that commitment."
Founded in 1999, MobiTV launched its first commercial service in November 2003 on Sprint. The MobiTV platform manages content delivery over
