Danger Close is in charge of both aspects, will create synergies

Luke Thai, one of the producers working on the upcoming Medal of Honor: Warfighter at Danger Close, says that it’s impossible to create a modern first-person shooter without creating solid experiences both for single-player and multiplayer focused gamers.

The developer tells Gamasutra that, “That really just all boils down to consumer expectation. If the norm now is that a shooter - a quality - shooter delivers high quality single player and high quality multiplayer, then that's the standard, and that's what every studio has to build for.”

The team at Danger Close has determined that those who are looking for a multiplayer experience need about 120 hours’ worth of content in order to be satisfied while those who are interested in the single-player experience want a challenge and an interesting story.

According to Luke Thai, the first rebooted Medal of Honor game, which was launched in 2010, was perceived by players as offering two very different experiences in one package, and that actually hurts its sales.

The single player for the game was created by Danger Close and the multiplayer was handled by DICE, who are best known for the Battlefield franchise.

For Warfighter, Danger Close is in charge of all aspects of the game and that means it’s easier to make both of them feel the same.

Thai also says quality is an important ingredient in the success of any shooter, adding, “That's an absolute, crucial necessity. With... the landscape being as competitive as it is, polish is the thing that sets the top-tier products from the mid-tier products.”

Medal of Honor: Warfighter will be launched on the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 on October 23 in the United States and three days later in Europe.

The game will face strong competition from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
