Comedienne and now Academy Award nominated actress Mo’Nique does not shave her legs – not even when she’s walking the red carpet in a short dress, as all her fans must already know by now. Convinced that she must show women all over the world how a real woman really looks like, Mo’Nique also has another reason for not grooming her gams, as she tells Barbara Walters on her Oscar special that will air this Sunday, as the New York Daily News can confirm.

Mo’Nique has spoken before of her love for bodily hair (hers, not a man’s), and her latest interview only comes to reinforce her previous statements: a woman should be as she was meant to be. Her husband, Sidney Hicks, for instance, loves her hairy legs so this is just another reason not to shave them. Moreover, she tried to do that once and the experience was next to excruciating so she’s not looking to repeat it anytime soon.

“He loves the hairy legs, and if Sid likes the hairy legs, there you go,” Mo’Nique tells Barbara. “I tried shaving one time, and it was so uncomfortable and painful. I said never again would I do that to myself. I’m 42 and I’m very hairy,” the star adds. Not even knowing that her husband might be unfaithful to her is likely to change that: in the same interview, Mo’Nique says she and Sidney have an open marriage – at least in theory – but she has never cheated on him. He might have, she adds, and, if he did, she doesn’t feel bad about it.

While the star has no problem of discussing her personal life, there is one topic she won’t go into right now: her Oscar speech. “I don’t like thinking about that, because I’m big on the universe. I don’t want to start making this speech or [think about what] I’m going to say because I don’t want the universe to say, ‘Really? You so sure about that?’ Let’s not jinx it,” Mo’Nique says.

Mo’Nique is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in last year’s critical sensation “Precious,” which also stars Best Actress Oscar nominee Gabourey Sibide and singer Mariah Carey. Mo’Nique is the favorite to take home the statuette so it’s easily understandable why she wouldn’t want to jinx that by talking about her acceptance speech.
