The company will use it better in coming major releases

Shigeru Miyamoto, the most important game creator working inside Nintendo, says that the company was right to introduce the new GamePad controller for the Wii U home console, despite the fact that it has generated some confusion among the potential customer base.

He is quoted by CVG as saying that “Of course we had some concerns. After all, we're human beings: our eyes cannot see two objects at the same time. But we were sure that, even with that kind of, say, weak point, we would be able to make something unprecedented and revolutionary.”

The GamePad has its own screen, and so far, titles launched on the Wii U have struggled to offer clear and important information on it while also allowing players to keep the focus on the television.

Nintendo hopes to fix the issues with upcoming titles, including Splatoon, that make better use of the innovation elements of the platform.

At the same time, the company is reorienting its business towards a hardcore crowd that can appreciate the subtleties of a new Zelda title that uses an open world structure or a new Super Smash Bros. that uses a set of redesigned mechanics.

The Wii U is expected to sell more than 3 million units during the current fiscal year.
