Shigeru Miyamoto, the leading game developer at Nintendo, says that Super Mario 3D World will not offer online multiplayer, just local cooperative play, because it wants gamers to have a social experience in the same space.

VG247 quotes the developer as saying that, “While online play is certainly technically possible for us, it simply wasn’t the focus for us this time around.”

The same though process linked to Pikmin 3 was also applied to Super Mario 3D World, according to the legendary creator.

Nintendo has long believed that local multiplayer is superior to an online experience because it allows those taking part to also interact in the real world while playing.

Rivals Sony and Microsoft have long focused on online multiplayer matches that involve tens of gamers at the same time.

Super Mario 3D World will be out in North America on November 22 and in Europe on November 29, exclusively on the Wii U home console.
