Shigeru Miyamoto, the leading game creator working for Nintendo, says that it might take another ten years before the company decides that online multiplayer should be included in all its titles.

He is quoted by VG247 as saying that, “the answer to this question might change in ten years time, if there’s a future game where for example we don’t think it’s important to be able to see the face of the person you’re playing with, then we might be able to focus more on some online function there.”

Nintendo currently maintains that multiplayer should remain a local experience because that allows those taking part to interact directly and remain civil with one another.

Online multiplayer might become a requirement for future titles if Nintendo wants to make sure that it increases sales for the Wii U home console.
