Nintendo might be looking for some remake candidates for the upcoming launch of the Wii U home console, and their most important video game developer seems pretty set on upgrading the well-known The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past to modern standards.

Shigeru Miyamoto was speaking at an event in Paris and stated to Develop that, “I think I’d be even more interested in creating something new maybe based on, or starting from, A Link To The Past. I think it’s important to bring some really new software.”

The veteran developer has also mentioned that he might even be willing to allow another game director at Nintendo to handle the direct development for the remake, with him taking an advisory role.

He added, “Some directors, I can give them the title and I know they will do something great with it. Other directors I’m not so 100 per cent confident, so they’re the ones I’d rather take a more remake approach to the title. It really depends on that as well.”

Miyamoto also mentioned the possibility of a remake for F-Zero, but said that much of the appeal for the game stemmed from the way it surprised gamers, something that could not be replicated with current hardware.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and was directed by Takashi Tezuka.

The game was launched on the SNES in late 1991 in Japan and was re-released on the Game Boy Advance and on the Virtual Console.

The title introduced a number of innovations that have since become core elements of the franchise.

Shigeru Miyamoto has recently announced that he was interested in working with younger game designers on smaller projects in order to share his talent rather than directly working on the biggest Nintendo brands.

The Wii U is expected to launch before the end of the year on all major markets.
