A little over a month ago, Mitshubishi launched the Diamond Vision OLED system that allowed the company to build some of the largest OLED displays for commercial purposes, Mitsubishi recently announcing the world’s first large screen OLED display has been publicly unveiled in Germany thanks to its Diamond Vision technology.

For those of you that might have missed this announcement, the Diamond Vision OLED display system is actually made up out of a series of standard 128x128 pixel OLED modules, each of these measuring 384mm square and weighing just eight kilograms.

Since this approach is highly modular, the panels can be put together to create an endless variety of screen sizes or shapes, even against rounded surfaces.

As a result, Mitsubishi can build some of the biggest OLED displays in the world, as it's the case with the 3.8mx2.3m Diamond Vision OLED screen Mitsubishi Electric installed in the reception area of a new research facility opened by Merck KGaA, one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies.

Used for welcoming visitors to the centre, as a presentation aid, and as a stunning backdrop to events hosted at the Darmstadt facility, this OLED screen is capable of delivering impressive vertical and horizontal viewing angles of approximately 80 degrees, according to the Japanese company.

Furthermore, these are accompanied by a 1,200cd/m2 brightness level, three times the light output of an average LCD, making the panel well suited for use in well lit areas such as commercial spaces, stations and airports.

Of course that all these great specs come with an equally impressive price, the Japanese company revealing to the oled-display website that one square meter of this 1,280x768 display installed at Merck costs about 35.000 Euros, a hefty price to say the least.

So, all of you OLED fans out there, better put Darmstadt on your New Year resolution list as this should definitely beat any fireworks display scheduled for this Holiday season.
