With all the new technologies meant to improve TVs and monitors, and with the hype surrounding the 3D display mode, Mitsubishi appears to have decided on combining the three in the form of the MDT231WG.

As always, makers of display solutions are doing well at keeping the market supplied with a steady flow of new displays.

This includes not just new monitors or TVs, but also more specialized screens, like color e-paper and sunlight-visible panels.

In fact, not too long ago, an actual version of the Nook e-reader with a color screen was released, ahead of time even, which goes to show just how active researchers are in the field of display technologies.

Mitsubishi stuck to the area of consumer-oriented monitors and TVs this once, by unleashing, as Akihabara News has it, the aforementioned MDT231WG.

This is what some may call a TV monitor, meaning it can act as both, depending on the setup and consumer desire, and has a screen size of 23 inches, plus an IPS panel with a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

Said refresh rate grants the display support for 3D, while the LED backlighting ensures a suitable brightness, contrast and energy efficiency.

Basically, there is a contrast ratio of 5,000:1, a brightness of 350 cd/m2 and a response time of 5.5ms.

Furthermore, Mitsubishi threw in the GIGA Clear II image engine, for sharpness and clarity of colors, plus a 5W subwoofer and a pair of 3W speakers, so that even the audio side of the equation may be covered.

Finally, in terms of connectivity, the company put in not only a D-Sub and a DVI, but also dual HDMI and a S-Video, as well as optical ports.

So far, the device has been unveiled only in Japan, where it is up for pre-order at a price equivalent with the sum of $1,414.
