It seems that Mitsubishi decided it was time to provide some display solutions that are rugged enough to work in outdoor, unfriendly environments, so it brought forth a pair of 8.4-inch LCD screens set to become available by June.

The problem, so to speak, with most display solutions is that they are quite vulnerable when it comes to environments with less than stellar humidity and heat levels, or dust and such.

That said, Mitsubishi decided to release a pair of industrial TFT-LCD modules with a wide operating temperature range, super high brightness and constructed with white LED backlights.

Dubbed AA084SB11 and AA084XB11, respectively, they both measure 8.4 inches in diagonal and comply with the European RoHS directive.

The former has a native resolution of 800 x 600 pixels, a contrast ratio of 600:1, a luminance of 1,200 cd/m2 and the ability to cope with temperatures of -30 to +80 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the AA084XB11 has a resolution of 1,024 x 768 pixels, and pretty much the same specs as far as everything else goes, except the brightness (1,000 cd/m2).

Users will likely be interested in knowing that the TFT-LCD panels have the same viewing angles, those being of 60-80 degrees both horizontally and vertically.

All in all, the high brightness of the newcomers should allow them to be used even outside, under the open sun or other bright light sources.

After all, if anything can be considered a drawback for liquid crystal displays in general is that they lose their visibility, some even completely, when exposed to sunlight.

The press release made a point of saying that the displays are design-compatible with the AA084SB01 and AA084XB01, the existing 8.4-inch modules.

As such, once shipments finally start on June 1, 2011, it will be easy to make replacements, especially thanks to the similarities regarding the placement of mounting holes and mechanical outline.
