Mitsubishi Presents Diamoncrysta WIDE 23-Inch IPS LCD

Unlike other display makers, which don't let a month or week go by without unveiling a number of new products, Mitsubishi seems to prefer a slower pace, as long as it allows it to make a lasting impression. For instance, after some time of little activity, the company unveiled a technology that could upscale Full-HD 1080p video quality to a resolution of 4K by 2K. Now, Mitsubishi Electric has finally decided to do something more 'traditional.'

The display-solution developer has made the official introduction of its two Diamondcrysta WIDE RDT232WX liquid crystal displays. In fact, the RDT232WX is just one monitor, only with an all-glossy and a non-glare version. The display has a screen size of 23 inches and makes use of an IPS panel.

The Mitsubishi Diamondcrysta WIDE RDT232WX, like most display solutions revealed over the past months, has a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It also features a dynamic contrast ratio of 5000:1 (1000:1 contrast ratio) and a brightness of 300 cd/m2. Additionally, the product has a gray to gray (GTG) response time of 3.8 milliseconds and boasts its own pair of built-in 3W speakers. Finally, for connectivity to a host PC or multimedia player, the monitor is designed with D-Sub, DVI and HDMI inputs.

In-Plane Switching is a technology that, when applied to a display device, significantly increases its viewing angle. This benefit initially came at the cost of a slower response time and lower contrast ratio. However, over time, these shortcomings have been reduced enough so that they can no longer offset the benefits that such panels bring.

For now, the two RDT232WX have only been announced in Japan, but they have not yet started selling even there. In fact, shipments will only commence at the end of May, when the glossy and non-glossy monitors will be priced at $464 and $486, respectively. There is no word on when, if ever, the devices will become available in other regions.
