Japanese company Mitsubishi has just announced the new DiamondCrysta Wide 27” monitor, on its official website. The new DiamondCrysta family member is named RDT272WX-BK and has a high-quality IPS panel.

Mitsubishi is a well-known quality monitor manufacturer. They are the makers of the famous Diamondtron monitors.

Last we heard, Mitsubishi has a 50/50 joint venture with compatriot company NEC when it comes to computer displays. NEC took over the whole business in 2005, but it seems Mitsubishi is still making some of its own.

The DiamondCrysta Wide RDT272WX-BK IPS LCD monitor comes with a rather high “real” 8000 to 1 contrast ratio and a fast 3.5 milliseconds response time.

The usual 178/178 viewing angles and the 250 cd/m2 brightness are completely in line with the other competitors out there.

The DiamondCrysta Wide RDT272WX-BK IPS LCD comes with a TV input and a remote control, two HDMI connectors and one DVI port, along with a standard D-SUB 15 VGA input.

Coming with two 6W stereo speakers, the DiamondCrysta Wide RDT272WX-BK IPS display weighs around 6.6 Kg, which is about 14.5 pounds.

Pricing has not been made available yet, but don’t expect it to compete with the cheap Acer TN panel LCD units with a 27” diagonal size.

IPS monitors come with significantly higher prices than standard TN flat panels.

The IPS technology is scientifically called “In-Plane Switching” and this was developed by Hitachi back in 1996 to solve the two main limitations of the popular and affordable TN-matrices: small viewing angles and low-quality color reproduction.

While TN-panels only display partial true color, the panels built in IPS technology will display consistent and accurate color from all viewing angles.

At the time, IPS was touted to bring only image improvements with no speed disadvantages, and unlike NEC’s SpectraView 241, the response time of DiamondCrysta Wide RDT272WX-BK IPS display is clear proof of that.
