It looks like Mitsubishi decided to unleash a monitor which looks common on the outside yet is anything but that on the inside, particularly owed to the existence of an IPS panel.

When it comes to the display industry, there are several technologies that can be used, like liquid crystal, Plasma, OLED, AMOLED etc.

Also, LCDs can be subdivided, with IPS panels being one variety of the technology, focusing on image quality, color accuracy and wide viewing angles.

That said, Mitsubishi has created the RDT233WX-Z, a 23-inch monitor with the expected native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.

Said resolution is complemented by a refresh rate of 120 Hz and supplemented by the built-in support for the Giga Clear Engine II technology, which enhances video playback and boosts image quality.

The availability is scheduled for the end of the ongoing month (June, 2011), specifically on June 29, for the price of 54,800 Yen, which is the equivalent of roughly $683. Unfortunately, other countries aren't expected to get their own batches of shipments.

Those that want to know more about the product anyway will be interested in the existence of not just a VGA port, but also a pair of HDMI connectors and DVI, plus a D5 port. Mitsubishi also went ahead and threw in support for PinP (Picture in Picture technology).

Of course, given the IPS panel, one shouldn't be surprised if the pixel response times aren't as stellar as they otherwise would be.

Either way, graphics designers and anyone else who places more emphasis on image sharpness are the prospective buyers for this product.

Those that want a gaming monitor or a HDTV can take a look at the products released by such IT companies as Acer and Westinghouse. As for competition, EIZO's own 23-inch IPS monitor could fill in for how Mitsubishi's solution won't leave Japan any time soon, if ever.
