Police in D.C. have come across a body matching the physical characteristics of missing autistic boy Michael Kingsbury.

7-year-old Kingsbury's body was found in a car in an alley with no visible signs of trauma. A medical examiner has confirmed that the body belongs to the young boy.

The remains were recovered just 50 feet (15.3 meters) from his home at 1700 block of West Virginia Avenue, Northeast DC.

He disappeared from the house on Sunday and he was last spotted at around 9 a.m. According to his sister, he was alone in the backyard playing on Sunday, WUSA 9 reported. His mother last saw the boy on Saturday.

She joined volunteers and police officers for a frantic search for the boy the following days.

"I'm going out and looking for my baby... not staying put," Katrina Kingsbury posted on Facebook.

She has also complained about the police questioning her as well as the boy's sister and grandmother.

"They’re spending all their time interrogating my family. [...] They should be out looking for my son," Kingsbury says.

The Washington Post adds that the community is stunned over the gruesome discovery. The boy's mother and some police officers claim to have checked the vehicle where the discovery was made a few days earlier. The inside of the car was also checked after the boy went missing.

"Just thought it was a red flag. Everyone in this community, how could they miss a little boy in a pull-up?" one neighbor says.

"I'm just sorry he was found right up under them and I know he's in a better place now," a second neighbor adds.

The coroner is yet to assess a cause of death in Michael Kingsbury's case. The remains were already decomposing when police got to them.
