We have a new Miss World. The 2013 edition of the beauty pageant, held in Bali, Indonesia the other night, saw Miss Philippines Megan Young taking home the much coveted tiara and the big prize.

Megan is 23 years old and she was actually born in the US, moving to the Philippines when she was 10, according to her official profile on the Miss World page.

She was stunned to find out she’d won the title and promised she would be the best Miss World “ever.” She also thanked to all those who chose her for the honor.

As is customary, Megan was crowned Miss World by the previous year’s winner, Yu Wenxia. With the tiara, Yu passed along all responsibilities.

Asked what she’d do if she won Miss World, Megan said, “I treasure a core value of humanity and that guides people why they act the way they do. I will use this to show other people how they can understand each other… as one, we can help society.”

Should Megan suddenly find herself in a position where she’s not able to carry her responsibilities through, she will be replaced by the first runner-up who, in this case, was Miss France Marine Lorphelin.

Second runner-up was named Miss Ghana Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter.

According to Megan’s profile, she’s heavy into movies and video games, even studying for a career in the former.

“Currently studying Digital Film making, Megan has been appearing on screen since the age of 15, starring in films, TV shows, and as a presenter. Megan has ambitions of moving behind the camera in the future, taking the role of director after gaining experience and finishing her qualifications,” her profile reads.

“In her spare time she enjoys playing video games, she says she has and always will be a Harry Potter fan, and that she is ‘guided by my heart… I think and speak from it’,” Megan’s profile also says.
