When her name was announced and she was officially declared the new Miss World, beating other 111 contestants, Kaiane Aldorino, a 22-year-old administrative clerk, clasped her hands to her face and could hardly speak. Aldorino was also the public’s favorite, and was followed by Miss Mexico and Miss South Africa, The Money Times informs.

The beauty pageant was held in South Africa for the seventh consecutive year and, as usual, saw beauties take to the stage and try to impress the panel of judges and the public with their abilities. Aldorino seemed to meet all the standards of both. The newly crowned Miss World 2009 says that she has big plans to make positive changes, plans that she will see through now that she’s being given the right platform.

“I have no words. I am really happy,” Aldorino said when she was bestowed the crown. “Thank you South Africa, this is the most wonderful moment of my life. As you can imagine, I am feeling extremely happy and I think that I need to sleep on this, to actually believe that it has happened to me. It is an amazing thing. I think that it will take a month to sink in,” she added.

“A two-hour ceremony took place in Johannesburg featuring traditional South African drummers and dancers. South Africa hosted its seventh Miss World final Saturday, spending approximately $12 million. The pageant, which was televised across the world, gave a taste of the country’s rich culture and heritage. The crowd was shown clips of the finalists’ time in the country after which they got wild, calling out names of their favorite contestants. Miss India, Pooja Chopra, a favorite among the crowd, got the title ‘beauty with a purpose’ for her charity work,” the aforementioned publication says.

Miss Mexico, Perla Beltran, was the first runner-up, followed by Miss South Africa, Tatum Keshwar. Miss France, Miss Columbia, Miss Panama and Miss Canada were the other girls who shared the podium with Aldorino.
