The Mirror's Edge reboot coming from DICE and Electronic Arts has just received some more details about its core mechanics and principles, emphasizing how the studio is striving to deliver a first-person parkour and close combat experience.

Mirror's Edge appeared many years ago as an ambitious first-person freerunning experience in which players took control of Faith, a Runner who had to make her way across rooftops and buildings in a futuristic dystopia.

While the game impressed through its originality, the actual gameplay and the rather confusing combat wasn't all that great, so EA and DICE shelved the experience for some time.

Last year, the two companies confirmed that they were working on a reboot of the series, titled simply Mirror's Edge, and at last week's E3 2014, they posted another concept video showing the work done to protagonist Faith and some early gameplay footage.

Now, on the official website, Senior Producer Sara Jansson has talked a bit about the progress being done by the team and how, even if it's still in the early stages of development, the new Mirror's Edge will delight all sorts of fans.

"Mirror's Edge is all about fluidity, physicality and movement. We want to make sure we evolve the game and Faith in a way that gives you an exciting new player experience. We want the game to be accessible enough to embrace new players while at the same time reward the skilled player."

"We are also committed to provide the best 1st person close combat in the world. Advanced combat that is integrated into an improved fluidity of movement. These are not small undertakings, but they are challenges that we are up for," she said.

According to Jansson, there are new builds of the game being cranked out each day and plenty of details about them will be revealed in the near future, especially about how the reboot refines some of the rougher aspects of the original.

"The way that the team has reduced all the little obstacles of playing the first game, while adding a bunch of innovative stuff makes it an extremely thrilling experience. The uniqueness of the Mirror’s Edge universe is still there, but with a new and fresh feel to it. We're also dedicated to let you know more about both Faith and the world that she is a part of this time around."

No word yet on when the new details will appear, and since the next Mirror's Edge has no estimated release period, don't expect anything in the near future.
