Rhianna Pratchett, the original writer of Mirror's Edge, is no longer involved with her former Digital Illusions CE colleagues, who are currently working on the next installment in the series.

The reveal came from the writer herself, via some Twitter posts that clarified this and speculated on what the reasons behind the decision might have been.

“It's really lovely that people care enough to ask whether I'm involved with Mirror's Edge 2, but I'm not & wasn't asked,” she said.

The original Mirror's Edge received little praise for its storyline, and the writer cites this as a possible reason for her not being on the team this time around.

“Let's face it, ME1's story didn't review that great (for many reasons). So I consider myself a casualty of that development process,” Pratchett commented.

She went on to wish the new team good luck with their project, and to state her hopes that they will create “good stuff,” as there is always a need for more of that.

Pratchett's resume lists games that have been acclaimed for their rich stories, featuring the likes of the new Tomb Raider reboot and Bioshock Infinite among others.

Mirror's Edge was quite the prodigious apparition when is showed up to the party in 2007, introducing an innovative take on the first-person shooter genre with its fresh gameplay and stunning sense of motion, being essentially a first-person platformer with heavy parkour elements.

The new Mirror's Edge game was revealed during E3 in June 2013, and will arrive sometime in the future for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms.

EA executive Frank Gibeau has expressed his high hopes for the upcoming game, and said back in June that it was being developed with the intention to “reach a bigger group of people.”
