The Mirror's Edge franchise is important to Electronic Arts, despite the fact that it might have stopped development altogether on its sequel.

A new report appeared last week about the development of Mirror's Edge 2, and how it has been stalled so that its developer, DICE, can focus on getting Battlefield 3 ready for release.

Now, Electronic Arts, the game's publisher, has released a statement, in which it says that the franchise is still important to the company as a whole.

Mirror's Edge was a pretty big gamble for EA, but, alongside Dead Space, didn't really manage to raise up to sales expectations.

EA didn't waver, and we've already seen how well-received Dead Space 2 has been, so plenty of people are now awaiting a sequel to Mirror's Edge, the somewhat short open-world free-running (parkour) first-person title.

Sadly for fans of the first game, they'll have to wait some more for Mirror's Edge 2, as a report arrived last week, saying that development on the sequel has been stopped, so that DICE, the studio behind it, can focus on getting Battlefield 3 ready for its launch this fall.

EA released a statement now to 1Up, in which it says that Mirror's Edge is still an important franchise for the company but that it has "nothing further to announce" concerning it.

As you can clearly see, the company didn't deny the rumor, so it's pretty safe to say that Mirror's Edge 2 has been put on the back burner, until at least Battlefield 3 will near completion.

EA's DICE studio has been on working hard on multiple projects in the last few years, with the bulk focusing on Battlefield 3 and its Frostbite 2 engine, while other, smaller teams, helped out the Need for Speed franchise through the Autolog online feature, while others worked on the upcoming Battlefield Play4Free online multiplayer shooter.

Among all of them, Mirror's Edge 2 was the most expendable, so we'll have to wait some more until the adventures of Faith and her parkour skills continue.
