Electronic Arts' DICE studio is working hard on the upcoming Battlefield 3, but this doesn't mean that the other title made by the Swedish company, Mirror's Edge, was axed, as a sequel may still be made in the near future.

While DICE is EA's go-to shooter and online studio, the company did stretch its wings with 2009's Mirror's Edge, a first-person free-running simulator, which impressed through its concept and sharp design, but became a bit annoying through its hit and miss gameplay and relatively short length.

Still, this doesn't mean EA or DICE have given up on the game, even if the two companies have both focused on other projects since then.

According to the EA Games Label President Frank Gibeau, Mirror's Edge 2 may still be made, and it's just a matter of time before gamers step back into the running shoes of Faith, a courier in a dystopian future who needs to use just her parkour skills and hand-to-hand combat against a variety of enemies.

"We haven't killed Mirror's Edge, we're actively looking at how to bring it back in the right way," he said to GameTrailers. "We love that franchise, the DICE guys really created something special the first time round and you've got to have a big idea to be able to do the next one and that's what we're working on."

What's more, Gibeau, when further pressed if we're going to see a Mirror's Edge 2 on the new Frostbite 2 engine, currently set to be showcased by Battlefield 3 and Need for Speed: The Run, he said that, "You'll see that combination I'm sure."

Mirror's Edge was part of EA's big effort of releasing new and fresh properties, alongside Dead Space, but didn't exactly reach the expectations of the company.

Dead Space did see a sequel be released at the beginning of the year, and it seems that such a treatment for Mirror's Edge is just a matter of the right idea and the perfect timing.
