Rumors suggested that publisher Electronic Art had canceled the development process for Mirror's Edge 2, which developer DICE was supposed to be working on, but a statement from the company suggests that the game might still be alive, just not one of the main priorities for the coming year.

Initially a report by Press 2 Play TV said that DICE had already shown a prototype version of Mirror's Edge 2 to EA and it was rejected, which, coupled with the limited sales success of the first game in the series, meant that the series was no longer in development, with the resources allocated to other projects.

Electronic Arts has recently announced that it was stopping development on some projects in order to allow the team working on Battlefield 3 all they need in order to deliver a great first-person shooter experience.

A statement from Electronic Arts denied that Mirror's Edge 2 development has been terminated, saying that the franchise was important for the publisher but did not say whether DICE was still working on the game and when gamers might hear more news about the project.

The first Mirror's Edge was one of the most interesting and divisive games launched in the last few years, allowing the player a lot of freedom to move around the environment and relying more on avoiding any fight than on overwhelming enemies with firepower.

In 2009 John Riccitiello, who is the chief executive officer of Electronic Arts, said that the series would go on but that the development team needed to choose whether it was interested in developing the first-person element, including shooting, or whether they wanted to enhance the puzzle solving elements.

Another one of the games that have proven initial disappointments for Electronic Arts, Dead Space, managed to gain the spotlight with the recently launched sequel and generate good sales.
