A new device, created by miniWiz, makes use of the light emitted by the Sun to charge its batteries, and can supply six hours of LED lighting on a single charge. The small apparatus, dubbed the Solarbulb, can be stored outdoors without a problem, as its entire surface is covered in a water-resistant plastic polymer, which allows for it to remain in your garden for as much time as you need. It can also be mounted on plastic bottles or cups, and the water amplifies its effect and lighting capabilities. The Solarbulb can also be used for decoration, and makes for an excellent alleyway ornament.

The manufacturer announced that the product would soon be available in more than one color, and that it would also feature a rotational head, which could virtually allow it to be turned to face the Sun very easily. The casing will also be protected against harmful UV radiation, which can damage an object after prolonged exposure. MiniWiz said that the gadget was due to be sold for the average price of $25, and that it expected large sales even within the first few days.

Basically, what the device does is absorb sunlight coming to it, and then store the energy in small cells inside. Once the battery is fully charged, a sensor goes into effect and tells the internal chip if its time to turn on the light. When the optical sensor detects that it's dark outside, it triggers the lighting process, which the company says to last more than 6 hours on a fully charged battery.

MiniWiz praised its product for its environmentally-friendly impact, because it eliminated the need for expensive garden illumination systems, for example, seeing how you could retrofit one of these Solarbulbs into a plastic bottle, and stick it in the ground, which would make for a great lamp. By doing so, you also renounce throwing away plastic wastes, which is one of the main sources of pollution in the world today.
