Despite how common USB 3.0 technology has become, not all new flash drives use it. Case in point, the new Mini M1 USB Flash Drive from PNY settles for USB 2.0 speeds.

That is why even the one with the largest capacity, of 32 GB, only achieves 32 MB/s when reading and 10 MB/s when writing data.

The PNY Mini M1 weighs 2.8 grams / 0.09 ounces and is compatible with all versions of Windows from Windows 2000 onwards, as well as Mac OS 10.3 and above.

Design-wise, the newcomer is a small thing, which sticks out of the USB port only about 1 cm / 0.39 inches. The shell is a metallic, textured case that carries a distinctive but understated sheen.

PNY claims that the Mini M1 is reasonably resistant to dust and water, though you probably should still avoid dumping it in the bathtub. Especially since they come in a capless design that always leaves the USB port exposed. Well, it's actually indistinguishable from the rest of the drive's body when beheld from the sides, but the plug is still always uncovered.

Sadly, PNY did not say when sales would begin, or for what prices. Chances are that retailers will list the Mini M1 Flash Drives shortly. Either way, the things have a warranty of 5 years.
