One of the most anticipated updates for Minecraft has yet to receive a release date, but the first details on what it will bring have already started to show up directly from Mojang.

Through multiple tweets and teases, the people at Minecraft Gamepedia managed to put together a list of new features and improvements that are expected to be included in patch 1.9.

Some of these changes have been listed in the bug tracker as “Far Future Version – 1.9+,” which basically means that they might not be coming in the next update at all.

However, they are worth mentioning because it’s good to know that Mojang is taking them into consideration and will eventually implement them into the game at a later date.

One of the most ambitious changes presumably coming in update 1.9 would be a way for mod/plugin creators to implement new commands and register them as simply as possible.

Pressed Dirts is another new addition that has already been confirmed via screenshot. This is basically a 15/16 block tall grass-like “path,” which features a similar texture to the standard grass block.

The Ender Dragon boss fight will be redone and a new cloud rendering system will be added

Other important changes that might be implemented in Minecraft via update 1.9 would be a new GUI for command blocks, which will contain tab to complete.

A new cloud rendering system is likely to be added as well. Also, Mojang plans to switch away from using fixed-function OpenGL to using Shaders.

There will be proper support for multiple bosses, including boss bars for each boss. Last but not least, the Ender Dragon boss fight will be redone, being similar to the fight in Console Edition. Also, the dragon will be made to respawn without resetting the End if he has already been killed.

Once again, we still don’t know when update 1.9 will hit Minecraft, but developers continue to tease what new additions will be included in the patch so we’ll be updating the story whenever there’s new stuff confirmed.
