4J Studios, the developer of the upcoming Xbox 360 version of Minecraft, has confirmed that Microsoft is keen on accelerating the current patching deployment on its console in order to streamline the updating process and get it on par with platforms like the PC.

Minecraft, one of the most popular indie games ever, became a hit on the PC thanks to the constant stream of updates released by its main developer, Markus ‘Notch’ Persson, and his team at Mojang.

Now, in order to accommodate the upcoming release of Minecraft on the Xbox 360, it seems that Microsoft is willing to make changes to its patching process, in order to deliver a better experience both to developers and to gamers.

According to Paddy Burns, the chief technology officer at 4J Studios, the company in charge of getting Minecraft on the Xbox 360, Microsoft is trying to make quite a few modifications.

"Microsoft knows that to do a similar thing that's on PC where they constantly update it, that's a very difficult thing to do on Xbox because you have to go through the full tests. But they are quite keen to move towards that - they do see it as the future, so I think we might be the first to do constant updates," he told Edge magazine.

This doesn’t mean that Minecraft on the Xbox 360 will receive erratic updates, as Microsoft is still going to run its own tests before deploying them through its Xbox Live service.

"I don't think it'll ever come to that,” Burns said about an update system like on the PC. “I think that there will always be Microsoft testing involved. But the whole turnaround of that testing they're hoping to speed up, so we can maybe roll out every two months. We'll have to see how that goes ... I'm really looking forward to it being updated with patches and new features after it's released."

Minecraft on the Xbox 360 is expected to appear in Spring and it’s great to hear that Microsoft is willing to make a few changes that would benefit both the upcoming game and other titles that appear on the console.
