Minecraft for Windows 8 Revealed, Sort Of

The “Minecraft on Windows 8” saga continues with a new episode, this time without involving creator Markus "Notch" Persson at all.

A touch-optimized Minecraft for Windows 8 was showcased at Minecon 2012 and although it’s yet to be an official release, at least it’s a sign that Minecraft might arrive on Microsoft’s latest operating system at some point.

The app is not completely optimized for the touch right now, but developers are still working on the project, so a much improved build should be presented in the near future.

Minecraft developer Noth previously said that he doesn’t want his game to run on Windows 8 at all and slammed Microsoft after the company contacted him on this particular project.

“I told them to stop trying to ruin the PC as an open platform. I'd rather have Minecraft not run on [Windows 8] at all than to play along. Maybe we can convince a few people not to switch to [Windows 8] that way,” he said via his Twitter account.

Hey Notch, quit being such a whiny b*tch and please the people who are paying you to please them.

notch needs to realize that minecrafts fanbase is mostly 11-17 year olds... MOST people that play minecraft won't be buying (or building) their own PC's and won't have control over their OS. More and more people are updating to win 8 and minecraft will eventually have to come to windows 8 if Notch wants people to keep playing it.

Think about it. I build my newest PC last week. It runs windows 8, and all the games I play work fine on it except minecraft. why should i spend a couple hundred bucks to switch to Windows 7 for ONE game?

THANK YOU NOTCH! Maybe Microsoft will put a little more thought into their next operating system and make a quality product instead of one that feels like a smart phone just with a 20" desktop screen... If I still had my xp disks I would be using them instead of this mess... I plan to buy a copy of Windows 7 just so I don't have to use this pile for very long... Windows 8 gets a generous 4 out of 10 in my opinion. On the plus side at least it doesn't have the ridiculous amount of bugs Vista had... Maybe Microsoft will be force to go all out and push out a new operating system sooner rather than later like they did with 7 so we can have a decent product for an OS again... Wish Linux was more universally supported...

And for the record, the majority of the people I have met on Minecraft are not between the ages of 11-17. They are college age or older and use it as a means of expression while actually building things. I enjoy the opportunity to be able to have fun building and testing ideas for fun without having to answer to the NRC (I am a 25 year old nuclear engineer).

Kick perrson out of the devolpment after buying it from him for all the leagal rights and such. Otherwise windows 8 ,in my opion, will lose thousands of wanting customers. I am a big fan of Minecraft by the way.
