The Linux platform is not mentioned in the announcement

Mojang, the studio behind the immensely popular Minecraft game, has been bought by Microsoft for the measly sum of $2.5 Billion (€1.9 Billion). The question is now what will happen with the Linux version.

This is not the first case of Microsoft buying a product that was also available on the Linux platform. The recent acquisition of Skype also comes to mind and the developers have continued to release updates for that app.

On the other hand, it's interesting and troubling to see that the Linux platform has been "conveniently" forgotten in the announcement that has arrived today from Mojang.

"What about the other editions of Minecraft? Will they stop being developed? There's no reason for the development, sales, and support of the PC/Mac, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Vita, iOS, and Android versions of Minecraft to stop. Of course, Microsoft can't make decisions for other companies or predict the choices that they might make in the future," reads the official announcement.

The developers figured that people would be asking this particular question: what will happen with the versions for Playstation or Linux? The problem is that Linux is not even mentioned in the announcement, only PC and Mac, which is rather sad.

We can only hope that the Linux omission was made by mistake and that the development will continue for this platform as well.
