4J Studios, developer of the Minecraft ports for next-gen consoles, has announced that the game will not feature infinite worlds, like the PC version does, but that they will be much bigger than the ones on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The studio mentions that the limitation is due to restrictions on the size of the save files on consoles, but has confirmed on Twitter that the maps will be "a lot bigger" than the ones currently available in the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions.

Additionally, the developer responsible for the Minecraft ports also confirmed that the PlayStation 4 edition of Minecraft will come with support for the touchpad, allowing players to navigate through the user interface.

Last month, Mojang announced that it's aiming to release Minecraft on Sony's PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita platforms sometime during Q2/Q3 2014, adding to the vast userbase of the DIY simulator.

Additionally, the retail edition of Minecraft for PlayStation 3 will hit stores on May 14 in Europe and Australia, and May 16 in North America.

The Xbox One edition of the block-stacking game does not yet have an official release window, but when it gets out, it'll come with the option to import saved games from the Xbox 360 version.
