Plenty of patches are going to appear for the popular game

Minecraft will continue to update across all of its platforms as the patches serve to further increase the potential of the game and to draw in more people every time, according to 4J Studios.

Minecraft appeared first on the PC platform from independent developer Mojang. Afterwards, once it became clear that the game is quite popular, the Swedish studio has partnered with 4J Studios to bring it to new platforms, such as the PS3 or Xbox 360, where it's become even more successful.

Currently, 4J is busy adapting Minecraft for the PS4, Xbox One, and PS Vita, but it's also released quite a few updates for the other versions of the game.

According to 4J's Daniel Kaplan, this process won't ever stop, as the studio is constantly trying to implement the new things added by Mojang in the PC versions of the game.

"Not until the [PC version] stops doing stuff. It's been like a catch-up game," he tells TotalXbox.

Mojang's Owen Hill also chimes in to say that 4J is doing a great job adding just the features that make sense on consoles from the new things added by his team onto the PC.

"Ideally you'd be updating all things all the time, but it's impractical as the PC version has been out for way longer. The 4J guys have been good adding onto consoles the exact templates, they're choosing things to include in a timely manner that will work well on the Xbox version. They're not following in our exact footsteps, they make choices of what to bring and when."

Hill also emphasizes that, while Mojang and 4J could easily charge for the updates, it would end up hurting Minecraft and driving people away, instead of tempting others to try it out with the fresh features.

"It's nice the way they're doing it. I really like the way how we don't charge for updates. It's something you could do but it's one of the things that makes Minecraft such a hugely popular game; when you add something new to the game, it changes the way to play and a whole new group of players want to play it."

Minecraft for the PS4, Xbox One, and PS Vita are currently in the certification and testing processes with Sony and Microsoft, so it's unclear when they'll be ready for launch.

Alongside them, updates for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game are also in this process and should appear soon enough.
